Wide Web Consortium
(W3C)
released April 16, 1998 the Synchronized
Multimedia Integration Language
Specification
(SMIL). Created by the W3C Synchronized Multimedia
Working Group, SMIL is an XML-based language for
writing "TV-like" multimedia presentations for the
World Wide Web.
SMIL
is a layout language, and is very similar to HTML;
a SMIL file is a text file and the syntax contains
tags and syntax much like HTML.
RealNetworks
has adopted SMIL for use with it's RealSystem G2.
