Integration New Media, Inc., has
released V12-DBE 2.1, an upgrade to
its database engine for Macromedia
Director. Along with this upgrade,
Integration New Media released its first
V12-DBE Behaviors Library and a series of
V12-DBE Mini-Samplers, both designed to
facilitate multimedia project
development.
V12-DBE
version 2.1 features the following
:
- a
customizable progress indicator can be
displayed when performing
time-consuming tasks
- data
can now be imported from Dbase V or
earlier and FoxPro 5.0 or earlier
files
- mGetSelection
method now allows the retrieval of
results as Lingo lists (regular or
property lists);
- Virtual
CR property enables the direct
importing of text files that contain
Carriage Returns as part of their
data
- the
CharacterSet property allows the
translation of character
sets
Developers
can now create database-driven user
interfaces without writing Lingo script.
V12-DBE can be implemented into a project
by dragging and dropping behaviors.
Behaviors are special cast members
designed to help users having limited or
no knowledge of Lingo, to implement the
most popular functions of V12-DBE.
The
upgrade to V12-DBE 2.1 is available for
$119.00(US) (single and cross-platform).
Registered users of V12-DBE 2.0 can
upgrade to V12-DBE 2.1 for free. New users
can purchase the cross-platform version of
V12-DBE 2.1 for $469.00(US) and the single
platform version for $349.00(US). The
V12-DBE Director/Authorware cross-platform
bundle is offered at
$699.00(US).

Netscape has announced they will add
Flash-viewing capabilities in the
next version of Navigator, due to be
released later this summer. It seems that
this support will be built into the
viewer, not added using a plug-in
(Macromedia recently made the Flash file
format an "open" standard in attempt to
expand the acceptance of Flash.)

From the "Curious Files" some new
Macintoush purchasers report that their
machines didn't come with QuickTime

units, or is Apple dragging their
feet?

Philips <www.philips.com>has
licensed its digital Universal Serial
Bus (USB) speaker system technology to
Microsoft Corp. Microsoft will use
the technology in its Digital Sound System
80 (DSS80) Windows 98-compatible audio
speakers. The Philips USB speaker
technology includes Philips w00x
Technology which uses a mechanical
equivalent of the Vented Box by replacing
the needed air mass with a well-defined
physical mechanical mass called the
wOOx-slave. Philips claims the system
offers improved bass response in a more
compact design.
