Here and There

Epson has updated it's inkjet inks and papers for improved lightfastness. The new papers are supposed to last as long as traditional color photographs; they quote 10 to 18 years depending upon whether you use the glossy or matte papers that they offer. Limited details are available at:

There's at least one company out there that has been promising an insert that will turn a SLR film camera into a digital camera. While on the face of it this seems like a good idea, in reality it is unlikely such a device would to be inexpensive enough and offer enough quality to make any sense. Here's a piece that explains the problems in such a concept:

Apple has posted some AppleScript scripts that do some interesting things. Two interesting ones are:

EMBED Tag Wizard
(requires QT4.1+) This script will generate the HTML tags to embed QuickTime movies in webpages. Open a movie in the QuickTime Player, run the script and answer the questions.

SMIL Sequence Wizard
(requires QT4.1+) This script will create a SMIL sequence of QuickTime movies. Each movie in the sequence can be made a clickable link to other webpages. Perfect for ad insertion. Run the script and answer the questions.

I was editing a Flash 4 document the other day and I went to delete a WAV file from the Library. A dialog came up asking me if I was sure I wanted to delete the file, and that deleting the file was not undoable. I clicked the Delete button and got the Blue Screen of Death. I guess they really meant it.
That said, I've been spending a lot of time playing with Flash 4 recently. I don't know whether it's what I'm doing with it, or the machine I'm using (Windows 98), but while the program is generally easy to use, it seems to crash a lot.
